NAIL after nail, work on the new building for the Simpson Men’s Shed group has taken shape.
The project, which has become a labour of love for many group members, has seen the shed doors open each day as work continues.
Group secretary Ken Unwin was pleased with how the shed was taking shape.
He said the shell of the shed was finished at the end of 2014, with internal work continuing.
As well as a working space for the men, the shed would contain enough room for local groups to meet with up to 40 people catered for, a large kitchen and an office.
“Everyone that comes in here, all the comments are they’re impressed. The more work we get completed, they will be a whole lot more (impressed),” Mr Unwin said.
“We’ve had a lot of assistance. All the timber has come out of the factory when it closed.
“The local support has been critical.”
Mr Unwin said the group was looking forward to moving into its new home in the next few months.
“Just to be here is going to be terrific,” he said.
“All the fellows that have been working on this have been terrific.”
The group hopes to have a membership drive once the shed has officially been opened, but community members interested in joining could contact any member of the shed.
