Cobden bombs out in prelim

Trent Reed returned from GWV Rebels duties for Cobden’s last two finals matches and was named among the best.

REIGNING premiers Koroit proved too strong for Cobden in Saturday’s preliminary final at Reid Oval.

The Saints drew first blood on the scoreboard with a Ben Goodall goal, before Trent Reed immediately answered for the Bombers.

Cobden held sway until the midway point of the term, then Jarrod Korewha and Goodall goaled again as Koroit headed to the first change with a 17-point lead.

The Bombers remained in touch at half-time, largely thanks to wayward kicking from the Saints.

Cobden were never really in the hunt thereafter, as a goalless third term all but sealed their fate.

Despite matching Koroit on the scoreboard in the final quarter the damage had already been done.

Sam Uwland was the Bombers only multiple goal kicker with two, while Joel Moriarty was named best for his side.

The Saints moved through to a fifth consecutive premiership decider, where they will take on Port Fairy, who are looking to end a 59-year premiership drought.
