WITH just 10 days to go, a $1000 prize is getting closer for one lucky Cobden shopper.
The Cobden Business Network (CBN) ‘Hot Winter Promo’ reaches a climax on Saturday, September 30 when entries close after three months of receipt-collecting for district residents.
To be eligible for the cash vouchers, shoppers have to spend $30 at 10 of the 74 participating CBN members – which includes retailers, tradespeople and service providers.
Two locals who hope to have their entries in the promotion boxes in the next week told the Cobden Timboon Coast Times about their different approaches to the competition.
A young mother of three said she worked out her strategy early in the promotion and listed the eight businesses her family normally support and realised she would need to find another two over the 12 weeks of the promotion.
“In fact, I’ll have two entries in by the end of the month,” the Cobden woman said.
“It’s been challenging, but good fun.”
This approach differed to a local retired man who said he did not really pay any attention to the competition until a couple of weeks ago.
“I was sorting through my shoebox full of receipts and I realised I had a few from different businesses,” he said.
“A box of beer at the weekend and a new shirt next week and I’ll be in with a chance I reckon.”
A number of retailers said they were pleased with the number of customers who asked for receipts over the life of the promotion.
Entries can be left at the Cobden and District Community Bank, Cobden Home Timber and Hardware and Hampden Vets.
The prize will be drawn on Saturday, October 7 at the town sausage sizzle.
