Advertising sign proposed for Terang

A PLANNING application has been lodged for the installation of a double-sided, externally illuminated sign near the main eastern entrance to Terang.

By Support Team

The site is currently commercial zoned property and owned by Titan Willows Pty Ltd.

The sign is proposed to be located beside a large shed which is currently used as storage by W.A Molan and Sons.

“The appropriate zoning and the robust commercial context were key factors in choosing this site for this development,” the application states.

The display face for the proposed sign would be 18.26 square metres, standing 5.65 metres.

External lighting would illuminate both sides of the promotional signage which features colorbond skirting and a GAWK Outdoor permanent business identification signage, bringing the total advertising area to 18.53 square metres.

A similar adverting sign had been located nearby, neighbouring the electrical substation, until its removal around three years ago.

The planning application notes the proposed sign would be 60 per cent smaller than the previous promotional sign, and would be located at “the most suitable (subject site) for the proposed sign in all of Terang”.

The proposal outlines benefits including advertising signage prompting travellers to stop in town, adding value to the leased property including a fixed rent payment each year, and the use of local contractors for construction and installation of billboard skins where possible.

“We always have a prioritisation for local businesses in the context of our sites,” the application reads.

“Two of the biggest advertising categories are tourism and agricultural, with the expected content to mostly align with businesses in one of those advertising categories.”

A decision on the planning application will not be made prior to Friday, February 2.

The application and supporting documents can be viewed at the Corangamite Shire Council office at 181 Manifold Street, Camperdown, or online at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au.

Any objectors will be notified of the final decision.
