Angling club’s night of nights
MEMBERS of the Cobden Angling Club gathered at the Cobden Golf Club to celebrate trophy winners for the 2022-23 season earlier this month.

MEMBERS of the Cobden Angling Club gathered at the Cobden Golf Club to celebrate trophy winners for the 2022-23 season earlier this month.
President Bryan Poole welcomed all members and their families to the evening.
He congratulated all trophy winners on their success and thanked all members for their support with fundraising efforts and their help at working bees.
“Secretary Les and treasurer Russell do a great job for everyone involved in the club,” Mr Poole said.
He thanked members for showing confidence in his leadership and re-electing him as president.
Mr Poole welcomed Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank representative Pat Robertson to the night.
Mrs Robertson presented the club with a $5000 grant which will go towards the purchase of a new ride on mower.
The club was also given support from the community bank for the junior presentations.
Mr Poole thanked the Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank for its contribution to the club.
“The Bendigo Bank has been an asset to our community,” he said.
Mr Poole also thanked Curdievale Angling Club for once again getting involved in card nights.
Club secretary Les Blake congratulated all of the trophy winners.
He said competitions throughout the year were reduced due to the unpredictable weather.
“We’re hoping it’s kinder to us during our next season of competition,” Mr Blake said.

• M Schulz - heaviest bream, heaviest murray cod, club trip number nine heaviest fish boat as well as heaviest fish from the bank;
• A Rantall - Heaviest redfin for the year, heaviest brown trout, club trip number two heaviest fish bank, club trip number five heaviest fish, club trip number six heaviest fish;
• D Staggard - heaviest quinnet for the year;
• E Williamson - heaviest whiting, heaviest barracuda;
• R Smith - heaviest leather jacket;
• F Clarke - club trip number eight heaviest bream;
• J Boyd - heaviest salmon, heaviest flathead, heaviest trevally, club trip number one heaviest fish, club trip number two heaviest fish, club trip number seven heaviest fish, club trip number 10 heaviest fish in the salt, club trip number 11 heaviest fish, club trip number 12 heaviest fish;
• A Smith - heaviest school shark, heaviest pink long;
• B Nelson - club trip number 10 heaviest fish from a boat;
• I Scott - club trip number 10 heaviest fish from the bank; and
• L Blake - heaviest gummy shark, heaviest gurnard, heaviest thresher shark, total weight for the year 10.050kg.
Ladies Trophy winners:
• M Boyd - heaviest bream, club trip number seven, heaviest fish, club trip number eight heaviest fish, club trip number nine heaviest fish; and
• J Nelson - heaviest Redfin, club trip number five.
Junior Trophy winners:
• Z Nelson - heaviest bream, heaviest Redfin, club trip number five, club trip number 9; and
• F Smith - heaviest salmon.
Special Trophy winners:
• Mounsey Memorial winner - A Rantall;
• Heaviest Redfin - Claude Smith;
• Memorial winner - D Staggard;
• Heaviest Quinnett - Harold May;
• Memorial/Cow Cocky’s Cup winner J Boyd;
• Lakeside Ballarat Comp winner of the fresh section Cobden angler J Boyd; and
• Warrnambool Timber Industry Comp fished against Curdievale - won again by Curdievale.
Mr Poole thanked local businesses for their support of trophy donations.
“Without your support our night would not be so successful,” he said.
Mr Poole also reminded attendees meetings were held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Lake Elingamite club rooms.
