Autumn rainfall below average

THE final month of autumn delivered on a boost to dams and tanks across Cobden and surrounds, but failed to reach the long-term average for the season.

THE final month of autumn delivered on a boost to dams and tanks across Cobden and surrounds, but failed to reach the long-term average for the season.

Throughout autumn this year, Cobden received 176.4mm of rainfall.

Throughout March, 78.8mm of rain fell over Cobden and surrounds, well over the long-term average.

The long-term average for Cobden is 48.6mm.

The wettest day of the month was on March 5, which saw a total of 31.8mm fall in the 24 hour period.

Despite strong rain earlier in the month, April’s rainfall failed to meet the long-term average.

Throughout April, 33.2mm of rain fell over Cobden and surrounds which was below the long-term average of 66.2mm

A third of the month’s rainfall fell on April 5 with 11.2mm recorded for the 24 hour period.

May rainfall was also below the long-term average with a total of 64.4mm rain falling for the month.

The long-term average for May is 82.3mm.

The hightest rainfall for the month was 9.8mm which was recorded on May 31.

So far to date this year, 252.2mm of rain has fallen over Cobden, well down on the 316.8mm for the same time last year.
