Banding together
THE Camperdown Country Fire Authority (CFA) brigade has once again teamed up with the Camperdown Lions Club to assist the community, this time serving sausages and smiles.

The two organisations ran a free sausage sizzle stall at the Sunday markets, with many people drawn in by the smell of sausages and enjoying the opportunity for a conversation.
Camperdown CFA Community safety coordinator Sarah Blair said the idea behind the recent collaboration came from seeing the impact of the drought and the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund levy in the community.
“A lot of people are going through a really tough time at the moment for various reasons – drought-related, emergency services tax related, and then just the general troubles that come with life,” she said.
“We just wanted to have a small gesture to the community to get everyone together, to allow for conversation, and just let people know they can come down and they’re welcome to have a snag, a smile and a chat.
“A few people didn’t know the sausages were free until they got here, so I think we made a few people smile.
“It’s really nice to see the community spirit and the support for the brigade – that’s what community is all about, we all support each other. It goes both ways.”
While the sausages were free, many people donated to the brigade while children enjoyed seeing the lights and sirens from one of the brigade tankers parked near the stall.
Ms Blair said the sausage sizzle was a continuation of the developing partnership between the Camperdown CFA and the Camperdown Lions Club.
“We’re building on from the smoke alarm program that we did with the Lions Club where we installed and tested smoke alarms for the more vulnerable community members, so this is another great opportunity to partner with the Lions Club because they do some really good work,” she said.
“We hope there’s more for us to work together in the future to benefit the community.”
