Big effort from Demons

THE Timboon Demons put in a strong showing against reigning premier Nirranda, going down by nine points in the round five Warrnambool and District senior football match.

After leading all day, Nirranda held on to record a 12.5.77 to 9.14.68 win at the Timboon Recreation Reserve.

Bayley Thompson with three and Oliver Delaney with two were the multiple goal kickers for the Demons, with Ben Newey, Jack McGlade, Lyndon Alsop, Bradley Gillingham, Mitchell Wallace and Finn Castledine best.

Timboon handed senior debuts to Castledine, a former Timboon junior who has spent a few years in the Hampden league, and Angus Hill, a midfielder based in Melbourne.

The match also saw the return of Nick Thompson, a 2008 premiership player for the Demons, who returns after 276 games for South Warrnambool.

This week the Demons are scheduled to play Dennington at Dennington.

The reserves match was even closer, Nirranda winning by four points, 4.3.27 to 3.5.23.

Daniel Shanahan, Henry Stansfield and Ned Deppeler were the Demons best, with Leroy Steere, Darcy Tribe and Luke Smith kicking a goal each.

Timboon was too strong in the under 18.5 football, scoring a 10.13.73 to 0.1.1 win.

Best for Timboon were Thomas Ryan, Lachlan McLennan and Joshua McKenzie, with Thomas Ryan kicking three goals and two each to Jhyce Bartlett and Harvey Redshaw.

The under 16 match also saw Timboon win 6.4.40 to 3.5.23.

Riley Stephens, Kaspar Hendrix and Alby Jones were the Demons best, with Jones kicking three goals.

In the under 13.5 game, Timboon scored a 5.5.35 to 3.4.22 win.

Best for Timboon were Rory Hollick, Jack McKenzie and Jake McNeill, with Jake McNeill kicking two goals and Nicholas Whitehead, William Douglas and Lukas Hrebenyuk kicking a goal each.

In the A grade netball, Nirranda was too strong, scoring a 46-31 win.

Best for the Demons were Bethany Hallyburton, Laura Rosolin and Tash Hallyburton, with Rosolin scoring 20 goals.

In A reserve, Nirranda got the points with a 40-28 win.

Isabelle Moorhead, Tanya McKenzie and Hannah Maxwell were the Demons best, with Maxwell shooting 16 goals and Moorhead 10.

Nirranda took out the B grade game with a 55-27 win.

Rachel Newey, Jacqui Hanegraaf and Jennifer Trigg were the Demons best, with Jorja Nieuwenhuizen shooting 14 goals and Sarah Brown 12.

In the 17 and under netball, Timboon had a big 51-11 win.

Willow Roberts, Olivia Benson and Jasmine Plozza were best for the Demons in the win, with Ella Drayton shooting 21 goals and Plozza 16.

Timboon scored a 47-12 win in the 15 and under game.

Indii McKenzie, Stella Whitehead and Aysha Hollick were best for the Demons, with McKenzie shooting 16 goals and Imogen Woods 13.

The 13 and under game saw Timboon have a 31-3 win.

Annabel Doolan led the scoring with 17 goals, with Grace Richardson scoring 11.

Annabel Doolan, Brenna Redshaw and Grace Askew were the best for the under 13 Demons.

In the 11 and under netball, Timboon had a big 28-0 win.

Best for the junior Demons were Katie Collins, Emily Stephens and Eva Watson, with Isla Lenehan scoring nine goals and Gretel Hollick eight.
