Big game awaits Demons
LISMORE/Derrinallum’s senior footballers recorded their eighth win of the season with a 64-point win over SMW Rovers at Mininera.
The Demons dominated early and controlled the game all day in the 16.15.111 to 7.5.47 win.
“To the Rovers credit, they really took it up to us,” Demons coach Alec Wiltshire said.
“After our strong start they went defensive, flooded our forward line and made the game more of a scrap.”
While Rovers were able to slow Lismore/Derrinallum’s scoring to an extent, the Demons had too much firepower to deal with.
Key forward Lachie Constable bagged eight goals to take his season tally to 50, with Jack McCallum kicking four and Noah McIntosh three.
“Constable played a big game, he took some strong grabs despite being double teamed at times.
“If he didn’t mark it he brought it to ground where McCallum and McIntosh were dangerous with their pace.”
Ruckman Henry Walsh was named best player continuing his strong form.
“I don’t think Henry lost a ruck contest all day,” Wiltshire said.
“He’s a big presence and gives us plenty of drive.”
A huge clash awaits this week with the Demons travelling to Ararat to play the undefeated Ararat Eagles.
“They play well at home and are obviously the competition benchmark.
“We’re excited to see how we will go against them, the players have been looking forward to this game for a few weeks now.”
In the reserves, Lismore/Derrinallum had a big 9.16.70 to 1.5.11 win.
Ryan Jeffrey and Fraser Toohey kicked three goals each, with Marshall Browne, Xavier Coutts and Matthew Bacon the Demons best.
Lismore/Derrinallum had the bye in the under 16.5 competition.
The Demons’ A grade netballers had their third win of the season with a 46-42 victory.
Hannah Walker and Emily Murray scored 23 goals each, with Alexandra Sheridan and Murray the best for the Demons.
Forty goals from Stella Horspole led Lismore/Derrinallum to a 50-27 win in the B grade game.
Horspole was named best along with Alex Baker, with Abbey Burford also shooting 10 goals.
The Demons also got the points in C grade with a 36-20 win.
Tiarna Evans and Bridgette Filbay were Lismore/Derrinallum’s best, with Filbay scoring 25 goals.
Lismore/Derrinallum had a 51-24 win in the 18 and under netball.
