Bloods unblemished season continues
TERANG MORTLAKE remains undefeated after a 50-point win over Cobden in the round three Hampden League senior football match on Sunday.
The Bloods led at every change to record a 15.10.100 to 7.8.50 win at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve.
“I thought we started the game really well in the first half, and they came out after half-time and fired a bit of a shot; they played some good footy in the third,” Terang Mortlake coach Lewis Taylor said.
“But we were able to get it back on our terms and then kick away a bit from there which was good.”
Xavier and Tyler Vickers were best for the Bloods, racking up 29 and 26 possessions respectively, with Taylor the leading possession winner on the ground with 36.
“The Vickers boys are playing a bit of an all-round game at the moment, getting plenty of the footy and laying plenty of tackles.
“They’re really elite runners as well, so it’s great to have them.”
Ruckman Samuel Kenna was also in the best for the Bloods.
“Sammy had a great game, he played really well, we had Ryan Tanner do a little bit of rucking as well, he’s fitted in really easily and he was just outstanding.”
With Jackson Paine unavailable, Will Kain led the forwards with four goals.
“Will kicked four in the first half, it looked like he was in for a massive day.
“He probably missed a couple of opportunities after that, but he was in great form, you’d probably rather him kicking them early like he did, he was taking some massive marks and really set the game up for us.”
Teenager Josh Slater was another to impress Taylor.
“Josh has had a great start to the year, he’s looking like he’s going to put together another strong year and get better again.
“So that’s always pleasing and along with a lot of our young guys they really stood up, I think we’ve got a pretty good mix at the moment.”
This week Terang Mortlake will host Port Fairy at the Terang Recreation Reserve.
“Port Fairy probably haven’t got the wins on the board that they’d like, but they’ve been pretty good in patches, playing some good footy at times.
“We can’t get too comfortable, they’ve got some quality players out there, there’s no doubt about that.”
In the reserves, Cobden had a big 108 point win, 16.14.110 to 0.2.2.
Matthew Baxter, Damien Goddard and Dylan Wareham were best for Terang Mortlake in the loss.
Terang Mortlake won the under 18 football by 109 points, 19.10.124 to 2.3.15.
Caleb Bamford booted six goals and was best in the win along with Samuel Membrey, Hamish Molan and Oliver Guthrie.
Other goal kickers included Mason Barr with three and Clancy O’Leary, Molan and Guthrie with two each.
The under 16 game saw Terang Mortlake record a huge 144-point win, 25.20.170 to 4.2.26.
Hugh Kenna, Tom Scanlon and Arlo Herry were best for the Bloods, with Herry kicking five goals, Tyler Ackerly four with three each to Scanlon and Jessie Smith-Watts.
Terang Mortlake had a 7.9.51 to 5.8.38 win in the under 14 match.
Liam Kenna, Harper Dillon, Finn Scanlon and Ollie Clarke were best for the junior Bloods, Kenna kicking three goals and Zac Clarke two.
Cobden had a nine-point win in the under 12 football, 4.6.30 to 2.9.21.
Best for the under 12 Bloods were Ollie Membrey, Seamus Meade and Jack Gilmour, with goals coming from Gilmour and Hayden Clifford.

The Open netball saw Terang Mortlake keep its unbeaten record intact, scoring a 49-46 win.
“It was fairly close most of the game, and then I think we were down by a little bit going into the third, and then had a really great third quarter and managed to just hold on to it in the last,” Terang Mortlake coach Aimee Moloney said.
“It was just so good to see how much grit and composure everyone showed in the last quarter; the girls were just fantastic.”
Down by two goals at half-time, the Bloods outscored Cobden 13-6 in the third term.
“Things just came together in the third really well, we used quite a few rotations in the mid-court and our rolling subs.
“It was quite hot and players were fatiguing, it was quite a fast game, our young girls came on and gave us fresh legs so everyone could have a break and keep going.”
Best for Terang Mortlake in the win was Pippa Barr.
“Pippa had a fantastic game, she was wing defence all game and her defensive pressure all over the court was terrific.
“She’s just always an option coming out of defence into attack for us as well, which is also a great part of her game.”
Lyla Grundy and Jacqui Arundell combined well for the Bloods, shooting 28 and 20 goals respectively.
This week sees the third-placed Bloods play fourth-placed Port Fairy.
“It’ll be another really tough game, Port Fairy has recruited really well in the off-season.
“We’re looking forward to it again, and hopefully we can play well like we did on the weekend and see what happens.”
The division one netball game saw Cobden have a 31-24 win.
Maddison Chesshire, Holly Fowler and Bailee Overweter were best for Terang Mortlake, with Fowler shooting 13 goals and Chesshire 10.
Cobden also got the points with a 32-28 win in the division two game.
Best for the Bloods were Sarah Davis, Ava Nolan and Holly Jones, with Nolan shooting 19 goals.
The division three game saw Cobden register a 31-16 win.
Tess Harris, Sema Meric and Harriet Place were best for the Bloods, with captain Sophie Conheady shooting 10 goals.
Terang Mortlake was too strong in the 17 and under netball, winning 65-14.
Best for Terang Mortlake were Pippa Barr, Lyla Grundy and Madelyn Clarke, with Grundy shooting a match high 46 goals and Clarke 15.
The 17 and under reserves saw Terang Mortlake have a 37-12 win.
Lily Guthrie, Tahnee Sachs and Sommer Jones were best for the Bloods, with Sachs shooting 17 goals and Violet Dillon 14.
Cobden scored a 30-18 win in the 15 and under netball.
Sadie Baker, Zoe Hill and Tilly Harrison were best for Terang Mortlake in the loss.
In the 15 and under reserves, Cobden had a 19-16 win.
Best for the Bloods were Grace Boshier, Francesca Rickard and Beth Heffernan, with Poppy Moloney shooting nine goals.
The 13 and under game ended in a 22-all draw.
Imogen Barr, Taleah Dower and Matilda Conheady were best for Terang Mortlake, with Annabelle Blackford shooting 10 goals and Barr nine.
The 13 and under reserves game saw Terang Mortlake score a 23-7 win.
Charlotte Boshier, Daisy Sargeant and Kora Wines were best for Terang Mortlake in the win.
