Bowls day a fundraising success
THE Cobden community enjoyed a social day of bowls on Sunday, April 26 to help fundraise for the Rodney Grove Aquatic Centre reopening.
Friends of Rodney Grove (FORG) committee member Lesley Brown said the day was lots of fun for all involved.
“There were 35 participants and each team was matched with a bowler,” she said.
“Lots of fun was had during the afternoon with not everyone playing by the rules and some not keeping their bowl on their green, but this just added to the fun.
“A total of $905.50 was raised on the day, with all money raised going towards the Friends of Rodney Grove Heated Pool (FORG) fundraising appeal.
“A big thank you to the Cobden Bowling Club for putting on the day for the appeal and to all those who helped with the afternoon tea.”
A raffle was drawn on the day, with the first prize of an eagle painting by Debbie Banks going to M. Sinnott, second prize of a $200 voucher for picture framing from Geelong Picture Framers going to M. Kimber and third prize of a crocheted rug going to S. Matthews.
“We are working hard to raise the money we need and applying for all grant opportunities available,” Mrs Brown said.
“We have received grants from Amplitude Energy and Lochard Energy as well as donations from the community – so far we have raised $17,000.
“A special thank you to Carole Manifold for her tireless fundraising selling gerberas, donating her tuition fee to the appeal and selling lots of raffle tickets.
“The Cobden Post Office, Angie and Paula are selling chocolates for the appeal also – everything helps.”
Mrs Brown said FORG would be organising more activities in the months to come.
“Just this week we have lobbied politicians Richard Riordan and Dan Tehan,” she said.
“We are working with Corangamite Shire and are applying for grants at every opportunity.”
