Braving the cold
A GROUP of Port Campbell locals bravely faced the chill of the bay with a jetty jump and swim to celebrate the winter solstice.
The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year, which took place on Sunday, June 21.
Participant Darcy Tribe said the jetty jump and swim is a long-held tradition in Port Campbell.
“We’ve probably done the solstice swim officially the last 10 years to celebrate the shortest day of the year with an icy plunge from the pier back into the beach,” he said.
“Today’s not too bad because at least the sun’s out.
“We’ve got about 50 people I would say, seems to be a reoccurring number.
“I think everyone helps everyone else get through it.
“The water is about 13 degrees at the moment.”
Mr Tribe said after the swim the crowd would move to REAL Pizzas which would be holding a storytelling night, with part of the donations for the night to go towards FightMND.
