Menzel and Nelson Cook both took the initiative to set up separate fundraisers in memory of their young cousin Henry who died from leukaemia last year.

Their fundraising efforts culminated in one massive day on Saturday with the Menzel completing an eight kilometer swim at the Timboon Pool and Nelson electing to shave his mullet.

Mum, Sarah Cook, said the pair said they were both “happy and proud of themselves and so amazed at how much money they have raised for Starlight and Childrens Cancer Institute.

“We know they miss Henry so much and it was wonderful to do something he would be proud of and support these important charities,” she said.

“We know that Menzel had set a huge challenge and despite everyone saying he could use flippers he was so determined that we knew he could do it without them.

“The last lap of butterfly showed his enthusiasm and love of swimming after 243 laps.”

Mrs Cook said both Menzel and Nelson had raised more than $2000 each for their respective charities.

“We want to send out a huge thank you to our family, friends and wider community for their generous donations and messages of support,” she said.

“It was heart warming to have family and close friends spend the day cheering them on as well as others who popped in to say hi, grab a sausage and donate.

“We would also like to thank the Timboon Pool for its support and the pool committee for cooking the barbecue and helping out on the day.”

Menzel gave a special thanks to his school friends Rory and Lukas who jumped in and swam alongside him for some of the laps.

Nelson thanked his friend Lachie who also lined up and shaved his head on the day.
