Bulls women dominate

POMBORNEIT Gold scored a 131 run win over Irrewarra on Sunday in round three of the CDCA women’s competition.

Batting first at the Colac Secondary College Oval, Gold made 3/179 from their 25 overs.

Jada Mahony, Nellie Sadler and Jess Moulden all reached the 30 run retirement mark, with Samantha Coxon making 27 and Tayla Reynolds 24.

“It was a really impressive batting performance, we batted with intent all the way through,” captain Coxon said.

In reply the home team was bowled out in the 18th over for 48.

Debutant Lenise Mantell took 2/6 from one over, Lily Van Es took 2/11 from two with one wicket each to Reynolds, Sadler and Coxon.

“We had two debutantes (Mantell and Kaitlyn Ward) who added some fantastic energy in the field.

“It was a day where we put everything together well.”

Pomborneit Maroon scored its first win since the final round of the 2023/24 season with an 88 run win over West Warrion at Warrion.

“Our game against them last season was washed out, though we did play an unofficial game against them out there at the end of last season,” Maroon co-captain Debra Reynolds said.

“We jumped at the chance to play another game on the Warrion turf.”

Batting first, Maroon amassed 3/162 from its 25 overs.

Emily Norman (33 from 34 balls), Isla Spokes (31 from 31 balls) and Janelle Whitehead (30 from 39) all reached the 30 run retirement mark, while junior player Isabelle Pilley made her senior debut and made 13 from 18 balls.

In reply, West Warrion made 8/84 from its 25 overs.

Lilli Saarikallio claimed her maiden five wicket haul with 5/12 from five overs.

“Lilli was fantastic, she bowled full, attacked the stumps and always made the batters play.

“She’s developing very well as a new ball bowler.”

In this week’s games, the Gold women host Carlisle River at Pomborneit, while Maroon travel to Apollo Bay to play the Sharks.
