Campaign for Camperdown tourism win

FOLLOWING on from Timboon’s gold win at the Top Tourism Town awards last year, Camperdown has been named a finalist in the Small Town category of the 2025 VTIC Top Tourism Town awards.

Corangamite Shire Council recently made a submission based on a walk-and-ride itinerary following a rail journey into Camperdown.

Mayor councillor Kate Makin encouraged everyone to support Camperdown after public voting opened recently.

“A judging panel announced the finalists on Friday, May 30 and category winners will be decided by public votes,” she said.

“Voting closes Friday, June 27 and the category winners will be announced on Thursday, July 24, then go into the national finals.”

Cr Makin said council’s submission was aimed at international students, inviting them to come and enjoy an active lifestyle in “our magnificent surroundings”.

“For the submission, council’s economy and prosperity team filmed a promotional video, prepared an editorial article and planned an itinerary to attract more visitors and inspire them to stay longer,” she said.

“It puts the spotlight on various local businesses and scenic locations and includes the train timetables to show how easy it is to get here from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne.

“This is a fantastic chance to highlight Camperdown and create materials that show off our charm and the Volcanic Lakes and Plains region.

“Timboon’s win last year has been fantastic for building the town’s profile as a place to come, explore and stay and this year we hope to do the same for Camperdown.”
