CFA called to Leura
COUNTRY Fire Authority (CFA) brigades were called to a chimney fire at the Leura Hotel on Wednesday night.

COUNTRY Fire Authority (CFA) brigades were called to a chimney fire at the Leura Hotel on Wednesday night.
CFA was notified about the fire shorty after 6pm, with five vehicles responding.
Colac brigade local commander Byron Kershaw said tenants lit a fire in a fireplace, which caught alight in the chimney due to uncleaned soot within the chimney.
“It would have looked a bit spectacular because there was flames, a fair bit of smoke and sparks coming out of the top of the chimney, which looked like it was coming out of the roof of the Leura Hotel,” he said.
“It would have been three stories high. Local brigades responded, and the owners put a pot of water on the fire as the fire brigade got there; what that does is turn to steam, and the steam put the fire out.
“We were quite lucky it didn’t occur after hours or in the middle of the night.”
