Community House seeks extra hands
POSITIONS are open for volunteers to put their hand up to help out at the Camperdown and District Community House.
The Community House is seeking additional front of house and digital support volunteers to continue to support the community in a variety of ways.
Coordinator Emily Mercer said in 2025, volunteers had contributed $448,370 in community value through their work at Camperdown Community House.
“The Camperdown and District Community House was founded in 1988 and is a not-for-profit incorporated organisation,” she said.
“We are based at 6 Gunner Street Camperdown and consist of a volunteer committee of management, volunteers, members and part-time paid coordinator.
“Our coordinator position is funded by the State Government’s Neighbourhood House Coordination Program.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of Neighbourhood Houses.
“Volunteers are our everything – without them we don’t exist.”
Ms Mercer said anyone could put their hand up and could give a couple of hours a week or even a couple of hours a month.
“Volunteering at Camperdown Community House is a rewarding way to give back to your community, meet new people, share your skills or passion or learn and get involved with something new,” she said.
“There are numerous ways to get involved as a volunteer and we are committed to working individually to find the best fit for each person.
“You are never locked in to one way of volunteering or one particular volunteer role.
“Camperdown Community House provides a flexible, responsive and personalized approach to volunteering, and we can work together to make sure you are feeling satisfied and fulfilled by your engagement with the organisations as a volunteer.
“Volunteering at Camperdown Community House can be as simple as helping answer the phone when things are busy, or more complex such as assisting with ‘front of house’ work – which involves answering the phone, greeting people when they arrive and providing referral information to services and supports upon request.”
For a digital support volunteer, tasks often include providing one-on-one support to members of the community having issues with their computer, tablet, mobile phone or filling out online forms.
Ms Mercer said all volunteer roles are supported by the coordinator, with flexibility to adjust days and times as needed.
“There are also opportunities to volunteer as a group or activity facilitator in an area of your interest and skill,” she said.
“There can be singular and non-ongoing jobs, such as assisting with shovelling compost into the compost bays in the community garden, one-off creative projects or events and much more.
“We also have skilled role opportunities, such as bookkeeping and data collection and management or social media and communications.
“These opportunities will require additional screening, previous skill and experience as well as the possibility that Camperdown Community House will be required to provide you with additional training as required.”
