LISMORE Derrinallum has all but secured third spot on the Mininera ladder following victory over Woorndoo Mortlake last weekend.

The much-anticipated third versus fourth clash at Lismore swung the way of the home side, who enjoyed an 11-point victory on the final siren.

Taking the four points, Demons coach Alec Wiltshire praised his side for its four quarter efforts in what was windy and trying conditions.

“Kicking with the wind in the first quarter gave us a handy 39-point lead at the first break while keeping the Tigers scoreless for that term,” Wiltshire said.

“The wind was ferocious and it definitely favoured one end; the Tigers added five goals one in the second and kept us to one goal and one behind.”

To their credit, the Demons added another three majors in the third while restricting the Tigers to just one point, before a four goal onslaught from the Tigers in the last narrowed the margin to less than two goals.

“It could have gone either way in the end, but I’m proud of the way the boys fought out each quarter, both with and against the wind,” Wiltshire said.

“The four points was important to us and it now gives us a bit of breathing space at the pointy end of the season."

“With only four rounds left to play, we’ll be taking each game as it comes and going in there 110 per cent. We really want that double chance come finals time.”

The Demons will face bottom-placed Moyston Willaura this weekend, and then ninth placed Hawkesdale Macarthur before facing top side Ararat and finishing the home and away season against Great Western (10th).

“Ararat will certainly be a test for us so we’re looking forward to that challenge in round 15,” Wiltshire said.

“Last time we met they beat us by about 21 points so we’ll be looking to turn that around.”

Best for the Demons last weekend were Brodie Doolan, Michael Lockyer, Charlie Brett, Beau Ketchen, Tim Clarke and Lachlan Bryant.

Goal kickers were Andrew Parkinson (3), Benjamin Atkins, Jack Atkins, Hayden Brett, Michael Lockyer, Jack Pitts and Darcy Robinson.

The reserves also had a good win last weekend, defeating Woorndoo Mortlake 10.5.65 to 7.7.49.

Best for the Demons were Clint Dudman, Shannon Berriman, Ryan Marquand, Jayden Brewer and Dale Marquand.

Goals went to Clint Dudman (3), Shannon Berriman (2), Kelly Brain, Matthew Levings and Max Uren.
