Council to close over Christmas
CORANGAMITE Shire councillors and staff are about to take a short break over the holiday season before returning to support the community again in 2026.
The Civic Centre and Corangamite Regional Landfill will close for the afternoon from 12pm on Friday, December 19.
Most services will close from midday on Wednesday, December 24 until 8.30am on Monday, January 5.
Mayor councillor Kate Makin extended warm wishes to the community for the holiday season.
“On behalf of councillors and council staff, I’d like to wish all residents a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” she said.
“This time of year means different things for different people – religious festivals, school holidays, summer weather or just a time to slow down and take a breath after a busy year.
“However you chose to celebrate the holidays, it’s an opportunity to enjoy time with our loved ones and create lasting memories.”
Cr Makin gave a shout-out to the front-line workers who will still be on duty.
“Council’s Local Laws officers will be on call over the Christmas/New Year period for emergencies only, including livestock on council roads, dog attacks and wandering dogs,” Cr Makin said.
“Members of our works and services teams will also be on call to respond to emergencies.
“Transfer station attendants, cleaners, visitor information centre personnel and many other staff will have the public holidays off but will be back on deck throughout the holiday period to keep those essential services running for our community.
“Thanks also to the emergency services personnel, lifeguards and other unsung workers who are still on the job while the rest of us relax.”
For urgent requests over the Christmas and New Year period, community members can call 5593 7100 and follow the prompts.
For kerbside collection and transfer station changes, residents are advised to download the Corangamite Binfo app.
Pool hours and sporting centre programs are available on the relevant facilities’ Facebook pages.
While Maternal and Child Health Centres are shut, parents can call the 24/7 Maternal and Child Health Line on 13 22 29 for advice and support or contact their nearest medical service if a baby is unwell.
