Eagles too strong for Swans
CARAMUT has started the Mininera and District Football League competition with a 44 point loss to Hawkesdale/Macarthur in the senior match on Saturday.
The Eagles led all day to record a 12.13.85 to 6.5.41 win at the Caramut Recreation Reserve.
“Obviously not the result that we were looking for, but ultimately Hawkesdale/Macarthur are going to be right up there this season,” Caramut coach Scott Judd said.
“We knew that they’re going to be one of the benchmark teams, and it gave us a fair idea of where we’re at, which is that we’ve improved a fair bit while still having a few things to work on.”
The Eagles led by 10 points at quarter time and increased their lead to 45 points at the last change.
Both teams could only manage a goal each in the last term as the visitors ran out 44 point winners.
Devon Coates was best for the Swans in the loss.
“Coatesy played in the back line, a fair bit of ball came down there, but he stopped a fair bit of it and used it quite well out of that line, he gave us a bit of drive.
“It’s just we faltered through the middle of the ground and couldn’t get that overlap running and below our knees ground ball gets.”
Ruckman Dylan Burns, recruited from Russells Creek, was also a strong contributor in his Caramut debut.
“He’s a very good pickup for us, he gave us a fair bit of first use on the weekend.
“He definitely is going to be one of the best ruckmen in the league and will give us a fair bit of drive out of the middle and around the ground with his experience over the coming weeks.”
Captain Charlie Farrer was also named in the best and was the Swans only multiple goal kicker with two.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur also took the points in the reserves with a 10.10.70 to 3.4.22 win.
Nathan Murphy, Nicholas Walker and Carl Lehmann were best for the Swans reserves, with Joe Douglas kicking two goals.
In the under 17s, Hawkesdale/Macarthur won 9.5.59 to 4.11.35.
Samual O'Sullivan, Spurs Lynch and Charlie Jarvis were best for Caramut, with Andrew Gapes kicking two goals.
The visitors also got the points in the under 13 football, 3.5.23 to 0.2.2.
Arlo McRae, Ruby Russell, William Pearse and Oliver Russell were best for the junior Swans.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur scored a big 63-24 win in the A grade netball.
The B grade game also went the way of Hawkesdale/Macarthur, with the Eagles winning 28-21.
Charlotte Delaney led the scoring for the Swans with 13.
In C grade, Caramut had a 26-15 win with Rachel Hassett scoring 22 goals.
Caramut scored an 18-12 win in the 17 and under game, with Marli McRae shooting 11 goals.
In the 15 and under game, Caramut had a 10-0 win, while in the 13 and under netball, Hawkesdale/Macarthur had a 20-9 win.
This week Caramut will travel to Great Western.
