Fair weather for Cup
FUN, fashion and horses was the talk of the day last Saturday for Camperdown’s annual Sungold Milk Camperdown Cup.
Around 2500 people went through the gates, dressed in their Sunday best with fascinators abound.
Twenty-five women and 10 men vied for the title of Lady and Gent of the Day, which was taken out by Kelly Carty and Stan Woods respectively.
Camperdown Turf Club manager Karen Van Kempen said the number of entrants for the Fashions on the Field was higher than the previous year.
Ms Van Kempen said one of the highlights of the day was a football clinic, which saw 50 kids learning from retired Geelong Cats captain Joel Selwood.
“He also donated a jumper that he signed that was auctioned off in the marquee that he was in,” she said.
“That raised $3000, which was donated by the club to the Western District Food Share.
“We’re proud to be able to partner with Joel to support such a worthy cause as Western District Food Share, who provide food for the breakfast programs and the lunches at the schools and food relief packages for people in need.”
Ms Van Kempen said the day was very successful, with “beautiful” weather.
“The other highlight was the weather. The weather was beautiful; sometimes that’s pretty hard to get,” she said.
“The crowd was very well-behaved.
“We were basically sold out of our packages, so we were really well-supported by the local community and people from other areas.”
Surveys have been sent to those who bought their tickets online, with the committee planning to use the information from the surveys for next year’s event.
