Finals await Swans
CARAMUT’S senior football season finished with a 49 point loss to third-placed Penshurst in the final round match at the Caramut Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
The Swans pushed Penshurst in the first half, down by just seven points at the main break.
“We were very competitive,” Caramut coach Scott Judd said.
“Our second quarter (where Caramut outscored Penshurst three goals two, to two goals one behind) was one of our best quarters for the season.”
The reigning premiers pushed away as the game progressed, kicking nine goals to three in the second half.
“They just got away from us, especially in that last quarter,” Jud said.
Judd was happy with the Swans effort against one of the main premiership contenders.
“Overall it was a very good effort to finish the season and shows how far we have improved.
“To challenge a top three team for much of the game was very pleasing.”
Co-captain Kobi Bidmade was best for the Swans in the loss.
“Kobi has had a great last month of footy, he’s been great off half back, he has a real want to be involved in the contest.”
Judd also had praise for Jackson Brown and Joel Harriss.
“Jackson and Joel are both tough and very hard at it.
“They both really put in the one percenters that help the team.”
Judd with three goals and Damien Wynd with two were Caramut’s multiple goal scorers.
Penshurst was too strong in the reserves game, scoring a 14.19.103 to 0.3.3 win.
Kyal Makepeace, Seth McIntosh and Lachlan Purcell were the Swans best in the loss.
In the under 16.5s, Caramut had a big 15.19.109 to 1.0.6 win.
Finneaus Dennis, Samual O’Sullivan and Spurs Lynch were best for the junior Swans, with Lynch and Bodhie Jubb kicking four goals each.
Penshurst was dominant in the A grade netball, scoring a 63-6 win.
Whawhakiterangi Hapuku and Kimberley Tebble were best for Caramut.
Caramut had a 30-28 win in the B grade game.
Olivia Meade and Maddison Higginson were best for Caramut, with Yolie O’Sullivan scoring 20 goals and Chloe Anderson 10.
In C grade, it was a 21-21 draw.
Rachel Hassett scored 14 goals, with Karmel Moloney the Swans best.
Penshurst won the 18 and under netball 40-24.
Maddi Calvert and Marli McRae were best for the Swans, with McRae shooting 18 goals.
Yolie O’Sullivan and Grace O’Sullivan were best for Caramut’s 15 and under team in its 26-22 loss.
Yolie O’Sullivan scored 14 goals for the Swans.
Caramut finished the home and away season undefeated in the 13 and under netball with a 17-4 win.
Grace O’Sullivan and Alex Lehmann were best for the junior Swans, with Lehmann scoring 12 goals.
This weekend’s first round of finals will be a busy one for the Swans.
Caramut’s C grade netballers will face Moyston Willaura in Saturday’s qualifying final at Great Western (game to start at 12.30pm).
Sunday’s elimination finals at Penshurst will see Caramut face Penshurst in the 15 and under match (10am start) and in the 18 and under game Caramut will play Tatyoon from 11.15am.
Caramut’s under 16.5 football side and 13 and under netball team both finished top of their respective ladders and will have the week off.
