First season loss for young Lions
THE Corangamite Lions under 12s suffered their first on-field defeat of the season on Sunday.
The team went down 0-3 to ladder leaders Victoria Park White at Camperdown Showgrounds.
The Lions went into the home fixture knowing they were facing the toughest test of their young campaign, and the match lived up to that billing.
In a competitive first half, the team worked hard across the park and held their opponents to a single goal, keeping themselves well in the contest heading into the break.
The second half proved more difficult, with Victoria Park White adding two further goals to their tally to seal the victory.
Despite the scoreline, the Lions continued to battle until the final whistle, showing the same grit and determination that has made them a side to watch this season.
Emmett Gladman was a standout in defence throughout, earning a well-deserved Player of the Match award for his efforts in keeping the damage to a minimum against a formidable opponent.
Despite the loss, the Lions remain fourth on the ladder.
The team will now enjoy a short break, with no fixture on the King’s Birthday long weekend and a bye the following week.
Their next game will be played on Sunday, June 21 at the Camperdown Showgrounds.
