Fundraising for the trip of a lifetime
CUB Scouts will be out and about as part of fundraising efforts to join 3000 peers in a whirlwind camping adventure.
The 1st Noorat Scouts are aiming to send all nine Cub Scouts to Cuboree 2026, and have launched a raffle in hopes of alleviating the cost on families.
Cuboree will be held at Gilwell Park from September 28 to October 2, attracting Cub Scouts from across Victoria to enjoy an experience of camping, creating new friendships and gaining more confidence.
Noorat Scouts group leader Rob Rowe said the raffle would give the Cub Scouts an opportunity to take a hands-on approach to drawing in community support.
“We’ve got a raffle going which will be drawn on June 30,” he said.
“It’s just $2 a ticket, and whoever sells a ticket has the proceeds go back to their camp costs.
“There’s tickets available from all of our youth members and we’re out of the front of the Terang IGA.
“It helps to subsidise the kids in getting to Cuboree.”
Mr Rowe said the benefits of Cub Scouts attending Cuboree were far-reaching, with everything from fun and friendships through to building confidence and personal resilience.
“It’s a state-wide event so there will be around 3000 Cub Scouts in attendance and over 2000 leaders attending for four nights and five days over the September holidays,” he said.
“There’s no doubt the kids come back two years older for it.
“They grow resilience, independence, friendships, scouting methods and their understanding of scouting programs.
“They camp in units of around 42 kids and are fully catered, while during the day they head off to do activities which are run by volunteers from Adventurer and Rover units from across Victoria.
“There’s Adventurer Scouts who probably should be home doing their exams, but they’re making sure Cuboree goes smoothly – without them, it just doesn’t go.”
Mr Rowe said the Cub Scouts had already received a boost thanks to a generous corporate partnership, while residents were rallying around the young adventurers in their hopes of them attending the event.
“I’d like to acknowledge Global Power Generation, which has been a major partner around our major events – they’ve come on board to help us get to Cuboree,” he said.
“They’ve really assisted these kids through a corporate partnership, so we’re very grateful.
“There’s lots of on-site activities such as abseiling and rock climbing, even a mud activity.
“During the night there is entertainment offered so it’s a massive thing for these kids to go to.
“They only get to go to once.”
Raffle tickets can be purchased from any of the families, or outside the Terang Co-Op IGA on a Saturday morning.
“We appreciate any support,” Mr Rowe said.
