Gates open to cattle-breeding enthusiasts
THE team at Leawood Angus is looking forward to welcoming cattle-breeding enthusiasts to Beef Week (day five) on Saturday, January 31.

The gates will open at Leawood, 1545 Princes Hwy, Flynn, offering visitors the opportunity to inspect its Autumn bull sale line-up and enjoy a discussion on all things agriculture.
At Leawood their breeding program is built around three core objectives; consistency, longevity and profitability.
Consistency is achieved through more than 82 years of breeding registered Angus cattle and a long history of selectively using New Zealand genetics that thrive in Leawood’s southern Victorian, grass-fed system.
Across four generations of family management, Leawood’s breeding philosophy has remained steady.
This commitment is reflected not only in the uniformity of their sale bulls but also in the performance and consistency seen across their clients’ herds throughout Gippsland.
Longevity is the foundation of profitability.
In agriculture, whether it’s utes, stockyards, pastures or livestock, the assets that last are the ones that deliver the most value.
Genetics are no different.
The most profitable animal in any herd is often the older, structurally sound, low-maintenance cow (11 or 12 years old) who calved as a two-year old and has never missed a calf.
“That is our definition of longevity and it is built into every Leawood Angus bull,” Leawood’s Luke Stuckey said.
“Our clients can expect structurally reliable sires with extended working lives, contributing directly to long-term profitability.”
Leawood’s Autumn Sale will be held on Monday, March 30 from 1pm, offering 50 rising 18 month-old bulls and 40 commercial breeding femals.
This year’s sale team is headline by leading New Zealand sires, alongside Leawood’s ever-reliable homebred sires.
A standout new AI sire at Leawood this year is Rangatira Charlie 20-1034 – a high capacity, highly consistent bull with exceptional carcass traits.
“After inspecting Charlie at Kenhardt Angus in 2022, we knew he was the right fit for our program,” Luke said.
“It’s no surprise how many Australian breeders who have toured New Zealand come home saying Charlie was the best bull they had seen.”
Other feature sires include:
Cricklewood Pandemic P056 – a powerhouse sire known for adding carcass strength and consistency. Pandemic led Leawood’s Autumn 2025 sale, averaging $14,000 across eight sons.
Sudeley Viking 18101 – a standout of New Zealand’s 2020 sale season, widely regarded as one of the most impressive sons of the legendary Matauri Reality 839. Viking offers outstanding depth, width and softness - traits well suited to Gippsland conditions.
Leawood Sires – Leawood stands behind its own genetics. Leawood Pirate P391 remains the most heavily used sire – adding extra length, frame and outstanding structural correctness to his progency.
Q272 and N279, both sons of Merchiston Steakhouse 489, contribute exceptional depth and high-quality carcase traits to any herd.
Three additional standout sire lines to inspect are Leawood Razor R347, Leawood Ryder R453 and Leawood Saturn S394; three highly respected, moderate, thick types with impressive muscle shape.
“We encourage everyone to get in touch so we can assist in selecting the bull that best matches the needs of your breeding program,” Luke said.
“And we look forward to hosting Beef Week and showcasing the depth of our 2026 sale team.”
