Giants hit top form ahead of finals
CAMPERDOWN has slipped into second spot on the ladder after comprehensively defeating Colac (2) by 47 points last Saturday.

CAMPERDOWN has slipped into second spot on the ladder after comprehensively defeating Colac (2) by 47 points last Saturday.
The Giants left nothing in the tank, winning all four of their rinks after taking the lead early in the day.
A dominating performance by Luke Wright’s team resulted in a 31-15 victory over Peter Collihole, while Matthew Brewer won his rink convincingly over Ray Hutchinson by 28-14.
Ronald Cameron was down at afternoon tea, but rallied his rink to win by 10 shots over Trevor Nelson, and Mark McDonald’s four were comfortably in front most of the day, beating Noel Paatsch 23-16.
The win elevated Camperdown to second, seven points ahead of Colac City, who drew with top side Colac (1).
If Camperdown can remain in a top-two spot after this week’s final round, they’ll enjoy a double chance in the finals, and club president Matthew Brewer said that’s exactly what they hope to do.
“There’s a lot at stake this week, we really need to win and get 14 or 16 points to get the double chance,” he said.
“Camperdown Golf are relying on us to beat Lorne to give them a shot at the top four, and Lorne are playing for their finals.
“And then you’ve got Colac City, they’ll be trying to win and hoping we lose so they can grab second spot.
“So there’s a bit on the line for a few clubs, but we’ve got to concentrate on what we’ve got to do, which is get ourselves over the line and get a win on Saturday.”
A strong win by Camperdown could see them go to top spot if Colac (1) drop the ball this week, but Brewer played down their chances of finishing on top of the ladder.
“I don’t think we could get top spot, but at the end of the day, first and second, it doesn’t really matter, you get the double chance either way,” he said.
“There’s bragging rights if you finish on top, but we just want to ensure we win at home this week and hang on to that second spot.”
Brewer praised the attitude of everyone at the club, and said the positive mood was inspiring Camperdown’s bowlers in all divisions.
“The club’s in a really good spot at the moment, everyone’s got a great attitude,” he said.
“We ended up having three players out last week, but credit to the guys who stepped in, they knew it was a one-week proposition, and they did really well.
“Regardless of the result on Saturday, we’re going to play finals in division one, which is the main aim, but division four will play finals as well.
“They’ll have a few division two players that have qualified, which will strengthen them right up, so we’ve got an interesting couple of weeks ahead of us.”
