ROBINSON Street Medical Centre practice manager Glenda McIlveen celebrated a special milestone recently.

ROBINSON Street Medical Centre practice manager Glenda McIlveen celebrated a special milestone recently.
Staff at the Camperdown-based clinic surprised her with flowers and a balloon in recognition of her 40 years service to the practice.
Mrs McIlveen said she had enjoyed her 40 years working at the Robinson Street Medical Centre.
“I hope I’ve got a little bit of time left here,” she said.
“I think I’ll stay as long as Dr (John) Menzies does. I’ve worked with him for the 40 years.”
Mrs McIlveen thanked all staff and patients for the well wishes.
“I consider myself so lucky to have an employer who is so supportive, and caring of all the employees,” she said.
“Our team members are like extended family, I think that is why coming to work each day is so enjoyable and rewarding.
“I have great admiration for the way Dr John Menzies, GP colleagues, practice nurses, other health professionals and our team members have created the medical services that we can all be proud of in Camperdown.”
Mrs McIlveen said it had been “an amazing learning experience to work in the same employment for the last 40 years”.
“As a medical receptionist so much as changed over the years, working at front desk and providing medical services,” she said.
“I started with a typewriter, Kalamazoo accounting, if anyone can remember that and also taking shorthand notes to construct letters.
“Now we cannot imagine a day without our trusty computers, the internet and electronic banking.”
Mrs McIlveen reminded locals to take care of themselves during these turbulent times.
“Like all of life’s challenges, I believe we can all live through this Coronavirus pandemic, please remember to be kind to the receptionist on the telephone, be patient and take care for yourself and those you love,” she said.
Dr Menzies congratulated Mrs McIlveen on the milestone.
He said she began working at the clinic as part of a trainee program.
“She’s risen to every expectation,” Dr Menzies said.
“Glenda is the glue that holds it together here.
“She has a rare capacity for diplomacy and hard work.”
