History buffs catered for

HISTORY buffs will have a wealth of offerings to choose from at next month’s Camperdown Robert Burns Scottish Festival.

HISTORY buffs will have a wealth of offerings to choose from at next month’s Camperdown Robert Burns Scottish Festival.

Besides the popular lecture series, the Camperdown Heritage Centre and the historic Masonic Hall will be open and feature exhibitions with a Scottish flavour.

Festival chairman Dr John Menzies OAM, said the lecture series at Camperdown’s Killara Centre on Saturday, July 2 would feature “one of the best line-ups of speakers since the inception of the festival”.

The Camperdown and District Historical Society organised lecture series will have five speakers, all who are leading experts intheir fields.

Speakers are:

• Dr Andrew Lemon speaking on the history of horseracing;

• Dr Ian Buckland will speak about illicit whisky distilling and smuggling in Scotland;

• Dr Ruth Pullin will speak on artist Eugene von Guerard;

• David Jellie will speak about Scottish engineers Telford and McAdam and their legacy; and

• Dr Ian Clark will speak about western district pastoralist and politician Colin Campbell.

Lecture series tickets cost $25 and can be purchased online at www.camperdownburnsfestival.com.au.

The Camperdown Heritage Centre and the Masonic Hall will be open from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3.

Entry is by gold coin donation.
