Indoor bowls action continues

DIVISION one of Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls Action last week saw the battle of the Timboon Laws teams.

Timboon Lawns 1 v 2 saw both teams get off to a solid start.

By end seven both scores were locked at nine-all and three ends later, they were drawn once again at 10-all.

Even after 14 ends, the scores could not be separated.

Timboon Lawn 2 picked up four more shots to lead by four heading into the last end but it was Timboon Lawn 1 who took the win, 23-21.

Glenormiston 1 hosted Cobden 1 and the home side got off to a very good start but by end six the scores were eight all.

Glenormiston 1 then kept pushing forward, picking up 11 shots to Cobden 1’s three shots, and then took the win 21-14.

The third division one match saw Mepunga 1 host Laang-Ecklin and both teams started out pretty evenly, but the home side got an early lead 7-2 after seven ends and then drew away to take the win 18-10.

Rounding out the division one coverage was the Battle of the Camperdowns – 1 v 2.

The ‘visitors’ got the jump on Camperdown 1 but by end 11, the home side had caught up and led by three shots.

Camperdown 2 then mounted a last-ditch effort to trail by one shot with three ends to go.

The top four this week are Glenormiston 1, Mepunga 1, Camperdown 1 and Timboon Lawn 1.

In division two, Mepunga 2 was home to Scotts Creek 1.

The home side broke away early and dictated much of the game, winning 28-13.

Cobden 2 played host to Glenormiston 3 and both teams started out pretty evenly, with the home side taking a two-shot lead after six ends.

Cobden 3 then dropped the hammer, picking up 13 shots on ends eight through 12.

Glenormiston 3 tried to fight back but was beaten 20-11.

By end seven of the match between Simpson 1 and Mepunga 3, both sides were locked at eight-all.

However, Simpson 1 picked up 11 shots to six in the next seven ends which proved the winning form, 22-16.

Also in division two, Glenormiston 2 lost to Timboon Lawn 3, 13-23.

The top four this week are Mepunga 3, Mepunga 2, Cobden 2 and Glenormiston 2.

In the division three competition, Peterborough hosted Mepunga 4 but went down to the visitors, 17-10.

Cobden 3 got off to a flyer against visitors, Scotts Creek 2, and celebrated a win, 23-15.

The division three ladder this week is Mepunga 4, Cobden 3, Scotts Creek 2 and Peterborough.

In VIBBA news, there were no Heytesbury players that made it past round two in a field of 42 teams.

However, it was a different story in the mixed fours at Warrnambool Stadium last Sunday.

Honourable mention to team Wines – Pam, Max, Kathryn and Craig Fleming who made it to the quarter finals.

Team Mungeanhas made its way into the final, playing Team Ballarat with David Speechley as skip.

The final will be played at Sunshine at a later date.

Singles – Arthur Finch and Lara Mungean.

Pairs – Brett Mungean (s) and Scott Pierce; Pam Dwyer (s) and Jean Clover; Noah Mungean (s) and Pam Wines.

Triples – Allen Armistead (s), Les Pearson and Max Wines; Joyce Roberts (s), Rita Mungean and Deb Noonan.

Fours – Allan Beasy (s), Greg Howlett, George Fox and Ray Bond; Maureen Bond (s), Dawn McDowell, Doreen Coverdale and Val Blake; Gary Langenhuizen (s), Ron Simcox, Geoff Cook and Sophie Pearson.

Good luck to all players in the Ballarat Intergroup Championship.

The cost is $25 per player, payable to treasurer Joyce Roberts as soon as possible.
