The Jack Russell Terrier Club of Australia brought one of its shows to the village for a second year in a row, showcasing some of the best small breed dogs from across the district, in conjunction with hunting breeds and terriers.

Club president Mark Evans said he was pleased with the success of the event despite the bitter weather.

“I was a bit concerned going into it due to the weather and the cost of fuel at the moment,” he said.

“Apart from that it was pretty good, really.

“Entries were down a little bit on last year, but I think costs and the weather had a bit to do with that.

“Overall the day was pretty good.”

Mr Evans said the facilities available at the Noorat Recreation Reserve had ensured the smooth running of the show despite the rain.

“Being able to go undercover at the pavilion is one of the reasons why we have the show at the Noorat Recreation Reserve,” he said.

“The fact you have those facilities if the weather does turn bad, to hop in there and get out of the weather, is a positive.

“Last year we had a really good day with the weather while this year it was bad, but the facilities are there regardless of what type of weather.”

Mr Evans said he hoped the club could return again next year.

“We’re only a small club and it can be costly to rent out the facilities for the day but we’d love to come back next year,” he said.

“The higher fees would be the only issue but we love being there and the facilities are great.

“We’ve been getting some good support.”

Mr Evans said anyone interested in joining the club could learn more online at www.jackrussellterriers.com.au.

“It has been a bit of a struggle to get new members, but hopefully that’ll come,” he said.

“All the information is on the website.

“If anyone would like to become a member it isn’t an expensive thing and we encourage people to do it.

“We’d love to get the numbers up to keep the club secure going forward.”
