The award was presented during a recent visit by Lions District Governor representative second vice president Maria Baade, who presented the award to Mrs McSween.

Mrs McSween was recognised for her dedicated service to Camperdown and the Corangamite Shire, primarily through the Lakes and Craters Band.

“Jane has been musical director of the Lakes and Craters Band for the past 11 years, and last year was awarded Life Membership for her outstanding service in that demanding, busy role,” Lions director Bill Duncanson said.

“As musical director, Jane conducts weekly rehearsals, arranges music for all public performances which include Australia Day Shire celebrations, Camperdown Cup, Show Day, Anzac Day and Carols at Camperdown, Cobden and Noorat, as well as responding to many other one-off events.

“She seems equally happy playing piano, pipe organ, saxophone, or trombone.”

Mrs McSween was also recognised for her involvement with the Camperdown Theatre Company, of which she has been a part since the 2011 production of ‘Godspell’.

“Each production takes many months of preparation working with show producers and directors, selecting the cast, some of who come from other towns, and then there are the many performances both evening and matinee over a space of many days,” Mr Duncanson said.

“Jane also participates on roster with three other musicians who share providing music for Uniting Church services weekly and manages to fit in accompanying all the individual performers, and the collective singing at each soiree held by the church.

“Indeed a huge work load of volunteering her amazing talent to virtually every major musical happening in this district, in addition to home and family, and her employment as a technician at the Pathology Laboratory at Camperdown Hospital.”

Mr Duncanson passed on the “sincere congratulations” from the club during the presentation.

“The Alan J Holding Memorial Community Service Award is presented in recognition, and with much admiration of all this good work,” he said.

“The lions club applauds you, and with the while community thank you, and are most grateful for the skills and the enormous amount of time you give so willingly and a love of music you take such joy in sharing.”
