The Terang and Mortlake Health Service Ladies’ Auxiliary will present ‘Jazz afternoon with Hot B Hines’ on Sunday, July 14 from 1pm at the Terang Golf Club.

Tickets are $25 per person, and are available at the Josie Black Community Health Centre at 66 High Street, Terang, or via phone at 5592 0300.

All proceeds from the day will be used to further the Auxiliary’s efforts to support local health services.

Auxiliary president Bernadette McKinnon said she was looking forward to a wonderful event with great music, better company and afternoon tea supplied.

“It’s a jazz afternoon played by the Hot B Hines, who are quite a renowned band who come together from all over the place as a combined band,” she said.

“We’re going to have sweet and savory afternoon tea as the different members of the band play continuously, including solo items.

“There’s a trombonist, a sousaphonist, a bassist, a trumpeter, a drummer, a reed player, and David Hines on banjo.

“The jazz afternoon has been going on for around 10 years now and it’s always well received – it’s one of the ones where people are looking for tickets before they’re even out.”

While the afternoon will provide an opportunity for the wider community to enjoy, great music the event serves a deeper purpose of raising vital funds to support the local health service.

As Western District Newspapers reported last month, the Auxiliary recently made a $5000 donation to support TMHS in purchasing an Optiflow THRIVE system which enhances patient comfort during procedures which require general anaesthesia.

Mrs McKinnon said it was just one example of the positives to emerge from such fundraising at a time when it was more important than ever to support health services in regional communities.

“With the way things are in health services right now, it’s important that we have everything up-to-date in our hospital,” she said.

“The Auxiliary, although a small band of women, contribute to all the extra things the hospital budget cannot afford to buy.

“We want to do everything in our power to keep the hospital up-to-date with all the latest technology, and the money we raise goes directly to TMHS.

“I’d like to invite everyone across the district to attend because the hospital is there for us, so we have to be there for the hospital and do everything we can to put the hospital in the best financial position we can if we want to continue having the service in our community.”
