Kenna impresses Power coach

KOLORA-Noorat had a 68 point loss to Allansford in the round three Warrnambool and District senior football match on Saturday.

After the Power led at the first change, Allansford kicked away with a nine goal to none second term to take control.

The visitors ended up winning 19.15.129 to 9.7.61 at the Noorat Recreation Reserve.

“It was a pretty good effort against probably the best side in it,” Kolora-Noorat coach Shane Scanlon said.

Ted Kenna was best for the Power in the loss.

“It’s Ted’s first year out of under 18s, he’s already played a fair bit of senior footy over the last couple of years.

“He just seemed to be everywhere actually, he’s a talented young player, so it was probably only a matter of time really, before he had that sort of breakout game where he showed he’s more than capable of that at the senior level.”

Recruit Jack Lehmann kicked four goals.

“Jack played the first half down back, where he was really good, but then we knew that we needed to find an avenue to goal.

“We slung him forward which paid off for him, he kicked four in the second half, it’s just going to be a balancing act to try and work out where we use him.”

Scanlon also had praise for Brad Lucas for his job on prolific Allansford goalkicker Robbie Hare.

“Brad did the job on Hare, we knew that he was probably our best match up on him.

“Brad’s such a good competitor, he hates getting beaten, so I knew whatever Hare did, it wouldn’t be easy anyway - he did a good job to keep him to five goals in the circumstances.”

The Power fielded two debutantes in Jack Pekin and permit player Hammish Shipcott.

“Jack came in for his first game, he’s been playing well in the ressies, he was going ok but unfortunately broke his collarbone during the game.

“Hamish was on permit from Cavendish who had the weekend off; being a bit light on for numbers this week it was handy, he gave us just another bigger body.”

This week the Power play reigning premiers Nirranda at Noorat.

In the reserves, Allansford was too strong, running out winners 18.21.129 to 2.0.12.

Harry Standish, Fraser Guthrie and Nathan Glennen were the Power’s best in the loss, with Guthrie and Blair Clark kicking a goal each.

In the under 18.5 game, Allansford had a 14.12.96 to 4.7.31 win.

Kai Tonkin, Patrick Spokes and Riley Menz were best for the Power, with Kai Tonkin kicking two goals and one each to Luka Krizmancic and Dermot Conheady.

In the under 13.5 football, Allansford won 13.11.89 to no score.

Best for Kolora Noorat were Hamish Messer, Crawford Dunn, Archie Coxon and Jack Menz.

The A grade netball match saw Allansford record a 33-27 win.

“Allansford are a very good team and tough competitors, and they’ve just been continuing to build over the last four or so years,” Power coach Lillie Bourke said.

“It was really low scoring, the ball just kept going back and forth, it was really strong defence on both halves, it was a really nice game to play.”

After leading at three-quarter time by two goals, Kolora-Noorat was outscored 10 to two in the final term.

“The last quarter was a mix of things, it was hot so fatigue came into it.

“I guess they just put their foot down and we just didn’t keep up.”

Defenders May Suhan and Ailish Glennen were best for the Power.

“May was great, she’s been a really good pick-up for the club and she was fantastic as keeper, they rotated a few goalies but she did her job and did it really well.

“Ailish has started the season great, that was her first game back with the Power (returning from Barwon Heads), so it was good to have her back, it’s just like she never left.”

The A reserve game saw Allansford score a 26-25 win.

Best for the Power were Zoe James, Ashlee Holmes and Jessica Beasley, with Matilda Curran scoring 10 goals and Grace Lee nine.

In the B grade netball match, Allansford scored a 33-10 win.

Linda Kenna, Lucy Eldridge and Meg Kenna were best for the Power in the loss.

The 17 and under netball saw Allansford win 39-15.

Mayci Dwyer, Ivy Kenna and Olivia Coburn were best for Kolora Noorat, with Harriot Riches scoring 12 goals.

The 15 and under game saw a 26-26 draw.

Ruby Williams, Remy Herry and Jade Byron were the Power’s best, with Isla Spokes scoring 14 goals and Skyla Coburn 12.

The 13 and under netball was an 18-10 win for Kolora-Noorat.

Best for the Power were Lahnii O’Neil, Georgie Mellington and Lexie Williams, with Indi Blair shooting 12 goals.

In the 11 and under game, Allansford won 26-0.

Best for the Power were Dakota Mason, Aria Coxon and Ayla Greer.
