COBDEN’S division one cricketers fell 60 runs short of victory last weekend.

Chasing Pomborneit’s 9/205 the Knights got off to a strong start but fell away in the second half of their innings according to captain Simon Murfett.

“Pombo batted well to get over 200 but I honestly thought we could chase that total,” Murfett said.

“We had a good first 25 overs but then appeared to go abit flat and they got on top of us.”

Best with the bat for the Knights were Damon Delaney 29 and Matthew Boyle 18 while best bowling figures went to Paul Pekin 4/29 off 10 and Murfett 2/34 off 10.

“Our quicks (bowlers) did well but we were lacking one of our spinners with Jackson Rock out and we had Matty Kemp out injured also,” Murfett said.

“But in saying that, I was happy with how we went and we’ll now take a break over Christmas and come back refreshed next month and hopefully get a few more wins under our belt.”

While Cobden’s division two side had a bye last weekend, division three enjoyed a 32-run win over Boorcan, 7/118 to 86.

Campbell Walsh was the best of the Knights batters with 26 while Nathan Hallyburton finished on an unbeaten 13
