Len turns 102
TERANG’S last surviving World War Two veteran, Len Pomeroy, celebrated his 102nd birthday last week.

Mr Pomeroy was surrounded by friends and family for a surprise birthday celebration last Wednesday at his beloved Terang Returned and Services League (RSL) sub-branch.
A rousing ‘happy birthday’ reverberated through the RSL hall as those in attendance brought out a homemade cake.

Among the members to celebrate the milestone was Terang RSL secretary-treasurer Pam Bell, who said Mr Pomeroy was among the most deeply respected members the sub-branch has had.
“It was special to be able to put a day like this together for Len,” Ms Bell said.
“He’s our last World War Two veteran, and we appreciate everything he has done for this sub-branch.
“Having him as a member means so much to all of us – we all just love and adore him.
“He’s a wonderful man.”

Western District Newspapers sat down with Mr Pomeroy on his birthday for an on-camera interview documenting his life before the war, the military service which took him overseas and his eventual return to civilian life which saw him serve as a shire councillor before travelling the world in his 80s.
The interview will be published online on social media at www.facebook.com/wdnews.com.au.
