Local Scouts movement growing
THE growth of the local Scouts movement was on full display last week at the Emu District’s Term 1 break-up celebration.
THE growth of the local Scouts movement was on full display last week at the Emu District’s Term 1 break-up celebration.
The group of 104 participants across the Noorat, Cobden, Timboon and Camperdown groups visited the Cobden Miniature Railway last Friday.
District commissioner Steven Leversha said the group had experienced a 68 per cent increase in overall numbers since last year due to strong leadership and improved programming efforts.
“Scouting is the largest youth organisation in the world,” he said.
“Scouting is a big part of the Corangamite Shire.”
Scouts West Coast Region commissioner Robert Rowe praised the “quality leadership” of local leaders and program organisers for their efforts in increasing the district memberships, as well as local schools for their ongoing support.
Scouting members, group leaders and parents enjoyed the evening with a barbecue and Easter eggs aplenty after dinner.
Mr Leversha said the break-up was an opportunity for the groups to share their experiences with each other.
“It’s great for them to meet other Scouts from other groups,” he said.
Mr Leversha said the local Scouting group was always on the lookout for additional leaders to add on to the existing group of 16 leaders, the majority of which are parents of current Scouts.
The evening also included the investiture of five new Joeys and three new Cub Scouts into the 1st Noorat Scout Group, as well as the investiture of trainee Joey leader Jacquelin Raudino.
