TALENTED young basketballer Madelyn Clarke has earned her spot in the Vic Country Under 14 squad.

The 12 year-old from Terang attended her first training session with the squad last weekend and is now looking forward to representing Vic Country at a tournament in Albury in the new year.

“We are extremely proud of Madelyn and all the hard work she has put in to earn selection in the squad,” mum Faye Clarke said.

A year six student at St. Thomas’ Primary School in Terang, Madelyn underwent a vigorous selection process to make the team.

This began back in February this year when she attended an under 14 skills day in Hamilton.

She was then selected as part of the regional academy, which involved a 20-week training program in Warrnambool, before attending the ‘Gold Nugget Camp’ in Ballarat.

“Madelyn was then selected as an under 14 squad member for the Australian Junior Basketball Country Cup,” Faye said.

The team will compete in Albury from January 16-21 where they will face opposition from New South Wales, South Australia, the ACT, Tasmania and New Zealand.

“Madelyn’s selection is a huge achievement for her and it offers her a wonderful opportunity to play against some of the best basketballers in the country,” Faye said.

When not training with the Vic Country squad, Madelyn plays with the Warrnambool Mermaids in its under 14 championship team.
