AFTER a relatively slow start to the season, a fast-improving Camperdown got the points over Cobden last weekend.

Losing their season opener to Terang Mortlake and then going down to South Warrnambool in round two, the Magpies lifted for round three with a win over North Warrnambool.

The Magpies’ momentum continued into round four, with a 42-point win over Warrnambool and last weekend made it three in a row, defeating neighbouring club the Cobden Bombers by six goals.

The round five ‘Super Saturday’ at Cobden reserve proved happy hunting ground for the Magpies, playing under lights in front of a big crowd.

Final scores 11.11.77 to 6.5.41.

Best for the Magpies were Riley Arnold, Hamish Sinnott, William Rowbottom, Charlie Lucas, Cameron Spence and Dominic Absalom.

Four goals to Hamish Sinnott and three to Sam Gordon were highlights on the board, while James O’Neil contributed two and Jonty Lafferty and Myles Sinnott one apiece.

Earlier, the reserves found the going tough against the in-form Bombers, managing just one goal on the board for the game while the home side went on a scoring spree, booting 23.16.154.

Angus Gordon, Hugh Gordon and Shane Morgan were best for the visitors, with Gavin Brown the only contributor to the scoreboard.

Camperdown’s under 18.5s also had a tough day out, going down to the Bombers 5.1.31 to 14.14.98.

Wilba Cheeseman, Eddie Baker, Luke Kavenagh, Bailey Delaney, Logan Mahony and Brock Stephens were best for the Magpies.

Cheeseman, Kavenah, Aidan Conheady, Tarkyn Love and Lenny Stephens kicked one goal each.

The Pies will host the third-placed Koroit Saints at Leura Oval tomorrow in a clash that will see the victors in third spot on the Hampden League ladder.

Round five proved a tough one for Camperdown’s netballers, with the only win for the Pies coming from the 13 and under side.

Results were as follows:

Open – Cobden defeated Camperdown 81-27.

Division one – Cobden defeated Camperdown 74-29. Best for the Magpies: Indiana Cameron and Ruby Absalom.
