Magpies too good for brave Bloods
RAIN, wind and even hail failed to disrupt Camperdown last Saturday night.

RAIN, wind and even hail failed to disrupt Camperdown last Saturday night.
The Magpies recorded its first win of the Hampden league season, overcoming a gallant Terang Mortlake 7.19 (61) to 6.6 (42).
The Bloods made a fast start to the contest before the Magpies hit back in the second half to run out 19 point winners.
Camperdown coach Neville Swayn was delighted with the win first-up despite the poor conditions.
“The conditions were obviously terrible which really made the game a slog for the whole night,” he said.
“A lot of our style went out the door a bit because of that but we came from behind to win which was pleasing.
“Overall the effort shown was very pleasing.”
Swayn said the win was made sweeter thanks to an even spread of contributors.
Debutant Josh Place slotted into the side down back, while recruits Brayden Draffin and Judah Dundon also played their first games forthe club.
Returning Magpies Cameron Spence, Hugh Gordon and Jesse Gallichan also had an impact on the contest.
“Our effort and attack on the footy was probably the most pleasing,” Swayn said.
“We didn’t rely on two or three players, we had an even spread right across the board.
“Our set-up behind the ball right from the start was another thing I was really happy with.
“It’s something we’ve been working on all pre-season so to see we were set up behind the footy was another thing that stood out.”
While happy with his defensive output, Swayn said his side could afford to show more composure with ball in hand.
He said it was evident his players felt they were under pressure, especially inside forward 50 and blazed away when they had time to settle.
“We probably just rushed a little bit too much at times,” Swayn said.
“So having composure, particularly in those conditions, is something we’ll definitely work on.
“We had a lot of shots on goal and we probably should have kicked straighter which probably could have made the result a bit different as well.”
Swayn praised Spence, Dundon, on-baller Will Lord, ruckman Will Rowbottom and small forward Zach Sinnott for their efforts in the victory.
“Rowy rucked all day which was a big effort and he competed well all night,” he said.
“Spencey’s work in and under around the stoppages was good, while Will Lord was pretty consistent across four quarters in the midfield.
“Judah was really clean with the footy in the conditions and good with his ball use in his first hit-out onthe wing.
“Zach played a role for us in the second half. He still managed to hit the scoreboard but the role he played was a good learning curve for him and was one he did well.”
The Magpies are now preparing for a historic occasion, with the first ever match for premiership points set to be staged under lights at Leura Oval tomorrow (Saturday).
A short ceremony officially unveiling the lights will precede Camperdown’s clash with Cobden which Swayn said would be a crunch contest.
“It’s a big night for the club with the unveiling of the lights,” he said.
“We’ve been waiting for over 12 months now so it’s going to be a good occasion for the club.
“To play Cobden as well is probably fitting because it doesn’t matter how either side is going or where they are on the ladder, it’s always a tough battle with them.
“We’re really looking forwardto it.”
