Man airlifted following Twelve Apostles incident
INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing following a workplace incident at the construction site of the Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre.
It is believed a male contractor experienced significant hand injuries after his hand became caught in a sewer macerator.
A sewer macerator is a device used in sewerage treatment which uses blades to reduce solid wasted into small particles, reducing the size of pipes needed to remove waste in areas where gravity drainage is insufficient.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics responded to the incident at around 9.05am on Friday, July 10.
“A specialist Air Ambulance Victoria helicopter crew, Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics assessed and treated one patient at the scene,” the spokesperson said.
“A man in his 20s with an upper body injury was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.”
A WorkSafe spokesperson said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
