Man injured in alleged altercation

POLICE were called to reports of an alleged altercation between two parties known to each other which spilled on to Manifold Street over the weekend.

The alleged incident occurred at around 8pm on Saturday at 71-73 Manifold Street, the site of the former Amble Inn.

Witnesses reported having seen multiple weapons present, including a large blade, with a number of calls made to emergency services.

It was not confirmed if any weapons were directly used in the altercation, nor if police seized any prohibited items.

Camperdown police issued a statement in response to questions from Western District Newspapers confirming an incident had occurred, but stated there was no risk to the public.

“Police are aware of an incident that occurred on Manifold Street, Camperdown, on Saturday evening,” the statement read.

“Police are making enquiries into the incident.

“Police believe this incident was between persons known to one another, therefore believe there is no risk to members of the public.”

Ambulance Victoria attended the scene with one man being transported to hospital in a stable condition.

“Paramedics responded to an incident at Camperdown around 8.55pm on Saturday, February 3,” the spokesperson said.

“A man in his 30s was taken to South West Healthcare Warrnambool in a stable condition with upper body injuries.”
