Fifty-five graduates celebrated their schooling at a Mass and awards ceremony held at St Thomas’ Church.

Fifteen awards were presented to students who have shown a commitment to excellence during the year.

At a dinner MRC alumni Toby McKenzie, Sophie Rowan and Jake Rowbottom were inducted into the Young Spirit of Mercy Award.

Peter Morgan, Ben Blain, Daniel Meade, Sarah Wall and Ken Hinkley were also inducted into the Spirit of Mercy Award.

Principal Sharon Gillett acknowledged the “wonderful” ways which MRC alumni contribute to the community.

“This year we again induct alumni who comprise a very diverse group of people whose work and interests have taken them on very different paths, but they are united in both their connection to MRC and service to their communities,” she said.

“We know that the stories of our inductees will inspire our current and future students and help them to see and understand not only that a world of possibilities is open to them, but that setbacks can build resilience and create new paths and opportunities.”

Forty-one staff who have worked at the college for 15 years or more also received recognition of their years of service, with the longest serving staff member, Jenny Phillips, addressing the crowd in thanks on their behalf.

The Spirit of Mercy Awards will recognise outstanding alumni every two years from now.
