Mixed results for veteran golfers

CORANGAMITE Veteran golfers made their way to Colac late last month for the annual Corangamite v Geelong Challenge.

Fifty-two players from each region competed in the event, held on Monday, September 22.

The weather and the course both proved big challenges for players, with all but three playing to their handicap which showed how tough the day was.

It was pleasing to see Colac Golf Club starting to enjoy the benefits of the spring weather and the course coming back to life.

The Challenge (and the perpetual shield) was once again won by Geelong, with Geelong finishing with a 29.63 average and Corangamite 27.86 average.

Individual grade results were as follows:

A grade – winner Shane Clark (Geelong) 34 points, runner-up Peter Scott (Geelong) 34, third Alan Foster (Geelong) 33 and NAGA Andrew Lane (Geelong) 22.

B grade – winner Peter Revell (Corangamite) 40 points, runner-up Bill Boddington (Corangamite) 35, third Don Hanson (Corangamite) 35, NAGA Denis Moore (Geelong) 18.

C grade – winner Carl Shoemaker (Geelong) 40, runner-up Geoff Hayson (Geelong) 38, third Terry Coolahan (Corangamite) 35, NAGA Ken Jane (Corangamite) 19.
