Mixing comedy and pride
THE Camperdown Theatre Company (CTC) are celebrating the success of their latest production, while also honouring the dedication of two company members.
The production of Michael Frayn’s comedy farce Noises Off saw 750 people attending the various shows over the course of two weeks.
First-time director Warren Easley said he was elated with the final result.
“I would like to thank the cast for bringing their all to this show, from their finely-honed acting skills to their uncanny ability to multitask backstage,” he said.
“The set construction crew outdid themselves and the set was magnificent.
“I also extend my appreciation to the production team, committee and all the crew and thank them for coming on this journey with me.”
CTC president Toby McKenzie said he was very pleased with the success of the season.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed to Noises Off – it was a fantastic show to be involved in.” he said.
“I congratulate Warren, the production team and crew for their dedication and commitment to excellence and thank our community for coming along and supporting local live theatre.
“Robyn Lucas was presented with her Life Membership certificate just before the final performance on Saturday and it was wonderful to celebrate her longstanding contribution to the company since the 1970s.
“Robyn has taken on a variety of roles over the years, including committee, costuming, on-stage roles and more and we thank her for everything she has done.”
Ms Lucas wasn’t the only company member recognised, with crew member Jenny O’Neil being awarded the third CTC Tony Award on the final night of ‘Noises Off.
Tony Dupleix, who the award is named after, said the award recognised her contribution to the company since 2019.
“Jenny’s true value is everywhere – from conception to bump-out, Jenny will be there, with an idea, an offer to help, a supporting comment at a time of need, a prompt line,” he said.
“Always warm, always positive.
“The area of Jenny’s work that delights me the most is her prop making.
“From weapons in Clue, to food items in Freaky Friday, culminating with the magnificent cactus in this show.
“Pool noodle and rope – simple.”
A total of six performances were held between May 15 and 23, featuring a cast of 11 and a crew of 25 working to bring the show to life.
