Movies for kids this term break
TWO movie double bills will set the scene for fun outings during the July school holidays.
Corangamite Shire Council and the State Government’s Amplify! Program will screen four family movies at the Theatre Royal in Camperdown, located at 2 Bath Street.
The first two movies will air on Wednesday, July 9.
From 10.30am, the 2024 film ‘Paddington in Peru’ will screen, starring Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw.
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, where a mystery plunges him and the Brown Family into an unexpected adventure.
The 2011 film ‘Rango’, which won an Academy Award for Best Animated Film in 2012, will screen from 1.30pm.
‘Rango’ stars Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher and Timothy Olyphant, and follows an ordinary chameleon who winds up in a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff.
The second set of films will screen on Wednesday, July 16.
The 2024 film ‘Wicked’ will air from 10.30am, starring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jeff Goldblum.
The film follows Elphaba – a young woman ridiculed for her green skin – and Galinda – a popular girl – who become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz before an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz leaves their friendship at a crossroads.
The second film of the day is the 2024 movie ‘Inside Out 2’, which will screen from 1.30pm and stars Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke and Kensington Tallman.
A sequel to the 2015 film ‘Inside Out’, ‘Inside Out 2’ features Riley entering puberty and experiencing brand new, more complex emotions – as Riley tries to adapt to her teenage years, her old emotions try to adapt to the possibility of being replaced.
Corangamite Shire Council manager economy and prosperity Katy McMahon said entry was free with the Bath Street doors opening half an hour before each session.
“While Gen Alphas have grown up with streaming, going to the movies with your friends can make it a special social event,” she said.
“The big screen and sound system let the story wash over you in a way it can’t at home.
“Food and drinks, including fresh popcorn, will be available for purchase.”
