Moyne prepared for a big year ahead

MOYNE Shire Council has reflected on a busy year during 2024, while looking ahead to a busy schedule for 2025 which includes the replanting of Mortlake’s Avenue of Honour.

As reported in Moyne Shire Council’s Annual Report, 2023/2024 was a big year with major projects delivered in Koroit, Macarthur, Port Fairy and Mortlake.

Council upgraded over 32km of roads in the Chatsworth area, and registered a 12 per cent increase in productivity over the previous year while delivering over $26 million in capital works.

Moyne Shire Council mayor Karen Foster said council’s decision to continue offering home and community care services was significant for Moyne’s residents, at a time when many other councils were walking away.

“The decision to keep offering services not only made financial sense for Moyne Shire, but we also learned from our service users they have a high level of trust in the home and community care council provides,” she said.

“Council offers a wide range of services and support to residents, business owners and visitors to Moyne Shire, with most people at some point interacting with council at one time or another.

“It is great and important to acknowledge these services are valued.”

Cr Foster said it would also be an exciting year ahead for 2025, with an increased emphasis on improvement for council-managed roads.

“Top of the list will be rolling out our road resealing program during the warmer months, covering over 80km of roads across the shire,” she said.

“We will continue our advocacy to Spring Street and Canberra on the important issues for Moyne Shire and our region, including the condition of state-controlled roads, solutions required to solve childcare shortages and funding required for community infrastructure including Stage Three of the Koroit Township renewal and a replacement for Port Fairy’s Gipps Street bridge.”

“Major projects to be completed in 2025 will include the East Beach redevelopment and Skate and Play precinct in Port Fairy, and the replanting of Mortlake’s Avenue of Honour.

“Work has begun on council’s 2025/26 Budget, and we’re giving the community a chance to let us know what is important to them, and to propose projects for consideration.

“We have also started the process of developing a new Council Plan for the next four years and again we will be looking for the community to get engaged and tell us what they want us to focus on - I really encourage everyone to get involved and have a voice in this process.”
