Netballers win physical match

COBDEN’S open netballers survived a physical, competitive match against Hamilton last weekend to take the four points.
Open coach Sophie Hinkley praised her playing group for its solid, four-quarter effort.
“We went in to last Saturday’s game expecting it to be a very physical, competitive one and that’s exactly what we got,” Hinkley said.
“Last time we met we let them (Hamilton) back into the game towards the end of the second half and we only won by about three goals so we were determined this time around not to do that.”
Hinkley said the Bombers started strong and managed to maintain their intensity for the duration of the game, winning all quarters and extending their lead to finish with a handy 19-goal victory, 51-32.
Best for the Bombers were Alicia Blain, Sarah Moroney and Molly Hutt.
The win cements second spot on the ladder, with just two rounds remaining.
The Bombers will face fourth-placed North Warrnambool this Saturday before hosting Terang Mortlake for the final round of the home and away season.
“We always have a good tussle with North so we’re looking forward to this weekend,” Hinkley said.
“I’m super proud of all our netball sides, from open right through to the 13 and unders.”
In other games last weekend, the Bombers’ division 1 team was defeated 36-42, with Meagan Firth, Rebecca Dendle and Maddison Clifford named best.
Division two won 45-33 - best on court were Hannah Anderson and Gabrielle Beaes – while division three lost 12-41 (Jasmine Hickey Amy Kavenagh and Courtney Gatens named best for the Bombers).
In the junior games, the Bombers won all three matches played.
The 17 and unders won 45-25 (Paige Compton, Jessica Bourchier and Lara Taylor named best) and the 15 and unders won 35-21 (Matilda Darcy and Claire Blain best on court).
In the 13 and under game, Milla Darcy and Lila Bennett were named best in their team’s 42-8 goal victory.
