Noorat Terang on a high
Noorat Terang Cricket Club won all its senior matches on the weekend and on this high now leads into a week of acknowledging two respected players of the club who are achieving significant milestones.

Tim ‘Fossil’ Keane will play his 400th game while Martin ‘Tinny’ Wyndwill play his 200th game.
The firsts hosted close rivals Mortlake on the Terang Turf, with Mortlake winning the toss and electing to bat.
Some of bowlers were unable to replicate their previous round’s good line as 14 wides were bowled.
In his first game for the season Gus Bourke got the initial break through in the 14th over and finished with 2-20 of his nine overs.
Charlie Scanlon finished with 2-36 from eight overs. The two Isaac’s (Kenna and Toombs) both got one wicket each with Mortlake being 6-160 at the end of 45 overs.
Isaac Toombs and Dom Moloney opened the batting, and repeating what they did in the first game, chased down the total in the 33rd over with an unbeaten partnership of 162.
Toombs did give three difficult chances, as he reached 101 (not out) off 107 balls which included 13 boundaries, two sixes as he hit the ball hard to all parts of the field.
Moloney was 44 (not out) with three boundaries off 88 balls.
The pair compliment one and other with their different batting styles, and eagerly await to see what they can achieve in two-day cricket.
This weekend will see the start of the two-day games, with the Lions travelling to play the newly merged Warrnambool Cricket Club, at Walter Oval in Warrnambool.
This game will see club legend Tim Keane achieve the amazing milestone of 400 games. Tim played 381 games with Terang and his nineteenth game with the Lions will bring up 400.
Ironically his 300th was against Noorat, which has merged with Terang to create the new club.
He started his senior career at 21way back in 1991/92 much later than is the norm, after having played in the juniors. Tim played tennis after his career was halted, due to requiring a knee reconstruction.
On his return he bowled off spin and then turned his hand to being a medium fast bowler who excelled at line and length and was able to move the ball off the seam. He has now reverted back to spin.
Tim’s ability as an all-rounder is evident with his statistics of 9282 runs at an average of 26.9 with four hundreds and 41 fifties with a highest score of 126.
He has taken 748 wickets at 15.25 with the best bowling figures of 8-28 and has taken 26 bags of 5+ wickets.
A brilliant fielder, he has held 208 catches and contributed 22 run outs which is a tremendous achievement for a non-keeper.
Tim has also achieved four Association Cricketer of the Year awards and 17 Terang Cricket of the Year’s
Within the club he has been a long serving treasurer and committeeman, selector, seniors captain and coach; coaching the under 16s.
As well as performing on the field for Terang he has represented various associations and has been associated with in representative cricket.
Tim is a great role model at training, setting a high standard for his team mates to follow.
The Seconds hosted Nestles at Noorat with Sam Munro reminding the selectors of his ability, taking 3-6 from his nine overs. Jack McConnell in his first game for the season was very handy with the ball, taking 3-21 from his nine.
Behind the stumps Liam Venn took two catches and a leg side stumping. He only requires one more catch to reach a mileston of 250.
At 9-94 the bowlers were unable to finish off the innings with Nestles ending their 45 overs at 9-140. Andrew Battistello and Martin Wynd captured a wicket apiece.
With the bat the Lions lost Max Heffernan for 11 when the score was 21. Dave Conheady scored 58 off 85 balls with six boundaries and co-captain Liam Venn 17 off 58 balls with two boundaries steered the Lions towards victory at 3-100.
The other co-captain Martin Wynd with 24 (not out) from 44 balls and Charlie Kenna in his first hit for the season 16 (not out) from 32 balls saw the Lions to their first win in the 39th over.
This weekend the second’s travel to Bushfield to take on North Warrnambool in Martin Wynd’s 200th game.
Martin started his career with Noorat in the 2007/08 season and played 183 games. His 17th game for the Lions on Saturday will bring up 200 games.
A great clubman who has played in whatever division the club needed him to play and has scored 2716 runs at an average of 15.01.
Martin has two centuries and six fifties with a highest score of 105.
He used to bowl medium pacers and now bowls off spin and has captured 85 wickets at 16.05 with the best figures of 4-4. As a fielder he has 97 catches and five run outs.
Off the field Martin has made a significant contribution, serving as president for three years and coaching the Under 13s for two years. He played a role in the initial merger of the Noorat and Terang juniors which helped pave the way for the two clubs to merge last season. Martin played a significant role in the Lions first flag back in March.
The Thirds were missing their main contributors from last week and fielded five juniors and proved too strong for an undermanned Nestles.
Batting first the Lions were losing wickets at a steady rate even though a few got a start, Isaac Byron 18 and John Clarke 16.
It was two players making their highest score for the club that provided the impetus to see the team bat their 40 overs.
Pieter van Heerden in his second game made 28 off 56 balls and Lucia Clarke in her third senior made 13 with the partnership adding 40 for the seventh wicket. Returning to the club, Mark Lillico’s 40 (not out) off only 33 balls saw the side achieve a respectable 9-165.
Lucia got her first senior wicket and the first of the day and she finished with 2-22 from five to start proceedings in the field. Dad John, not wanting to be out done took 2-27 from five, as well as, two catches.
Sam Lillico rounded out the double wicket takers with 2-21 from five. Jack Farrell and Eamonn O’Connor both took a wicket. Nestles ran out of batters and were dismissed for 114 in the 25th over.
This weekend they will host Allansford Panmure at Noorat.
While the senior sides were all victorious the junior teams all battled in their games against much stronger teams.
The Under 13s in their two-day game against Mortlake Cobden are in a precarious position when they continue batting on Saturday.
Currently 8-44 chasing 2-117 with the visitors able to bat the rest of their innings. Liam Kenna 15 and Noah Conheady 11 were the main scorers. Noah also took the only wicket to fall to a bowler with the other being a run out.
Archer Gleeson, Sonny Davis and Jackson Irving bowled economical spells.
The Under 15s have a huge run chase against Mortlake Cobden needing 233 for victory.
Riley McIntosh, Jack Farrell, Noah Conheady and Hugh Kenna all took a wicket.
The Under 17s at Terang, playing Spring Creek, were up against it when they were 3-2 and then captain Max Heffernan retired hurt.
Flynn Gleeson was the only player to reach double figures with 10 from 60 balls as he hung in with the bat.
Defending 29 was going to be a tall order and at stumps the visitors were 2-96. Sam Lillico has 1-9 and Hamish Molan 1-5. This game continues next week.
