Pennant season ends

THE pennant season has come to an end for the Cobden Bowling Club, with both divisions defeated in the preliminary finals held at City Bowls Club.

Division four went down in a nail biter, losing by just three shots to Winchelsea, 56-59 (with Cobden winning just one rink).

Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland, Barry Morgan and Jeff Hester lost 16-20 to C. Williams, G. Orchard, P. Mawson and L. Warner.

Pat Hickey, Joy Beaton, John Raeside and Loreign Andrews were defeated 14-21 by R. O’Brien, E. O’Brien, C. Wojtowicz and C. Lewry.

Rex Perkins, Ken Farquharson, Doreen Coverdale and David Luker were the only winning rink, defeating R. Erwin, N. Heaton-Harris, M Drayton and C. Caldicott 26-18.

This was a disappointing loss, but a great effort to have reached the preliminary final after struggling most of the season due to supplying fill-ins for the other divisions.

Division two was dominated by the Camperdown Magpies, losing 69-104 and only managing to win one rink.

Camperdown proved its dominance with a large player pool to select from since the two clubs have merged.

Nick Kemp, Darren Mulgrew, Tom Robertson and Terry Beasley were the only winning rink (30-14) while the other three couldn’t overcome the strong combined team.

Community bowls will finish this week and has proven to be another successful event for the club.

Social pairs will begin in April and is a great opportunity for anyone considering playing bowls more regularly to become familiar with the game.

An invitation is extended to anyone interested.

Please contact the club for more details.
