A PERCENTAGE boosting 253-point thumping of Hawkesdale Macarthur last weekend has all but cemented third spot for the Demons.

Lismore Derrinallum’s senior footballers showed why they are serious flag contenders this season, kicking 41.21.267 while containing Hawkesdale Macarthur to just 2.2.14.

Demons coach Alec Wiltshire said while he was thrilled with Saturday’s big number on the scoreboard, his side was not getting complacent in the run to finals.

“It was great to get a big win like that on the board at this time of the season but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, we’ve got a big game this Saturday against top side Ararat,” Wiltshire said.

“And that’s going to really test us and give us a fair indication of exactly where we’re at.

“When we met back in round four we lost by 28 points so we’ll be keen to see how far we’ve come; we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

In terms of last weekend’s clash with Hawkesdale Macarthur, the Demons started relatively slow, kicking just 3.7 in the first quarter but stepped up in the second term, adding 13 goals to go in to the main break with a handy 92-point lead.

“We started off a bit quiet but we put the foot down in the second quarter which was pleasing,” Wiltshire said.

“We extended that lead to 166 points in the third term before adding another 13 majors in the final.”

Wiltshire added it was pleasing to see his side was able to score well kicking in to the wind and that the ball was shared around.

“We made good use of the ball all over the ground and took advantage of our opportunities,” he said.

“There was no selfishness; it was a great team effort overall. We maintained our style of play.”

Among the best for the Demons were Lachlan Ibister, Beau Ketchen, Steven Ryan and William Beever.

Michael Lockyer followed up his previous week’s 14 goal performance by adding another 18 majors on the weekend.

He was joined on the goal scorers list by Andrew Parkinson (7), Kelly Brain (4), Lachlan Ibister (3), William Beever (2), Beau Ketchen (2), Josh Anderson, Hayden Brett and Jack Pitts.

The Demons’ reserves side also went on a goal kicking spree, defeating Hawkesdale Macarthur 20.16.136 to 1.4.10.

Goals went to Ryan Jeffrey (6), Matthew Bacon (5), Matthew Levings (5), Benjamin Atkins, Ryan Marquand and Ash Stephenson.

Among the best for the Demons were Ryan Marquand, Dale Marquand, Benjamin Atkins, Ryan Jeffrey, Matthew Bacon and Timothy Turner.

After this weekend’s clash with Ararat, the Demons will finish the home and away season at home against Great Western.
